City set

Equipment

There were areas of car park with ‘Reserved’ cones barring entry. A vehicle headed straight for one such space and the huddle of people by the wall broke apart, a couple of guys rushing forward to move the cones as they recognised the driver.

There were at least two short scaffold towers, shrouded in green netting, and with a number of people squashed into them, as if herding together for warmth. It was quite cool in the gale-force winds. I saw the dark hooded lenses of a serious video camera peeking out of each obvious hide, and one desirable DSLR camera. The cameras seemed focused on the distant view over the city and on a block of flats not so far away. There were cables going over the edge, and something on a tripod that appeared to be measuring wind force.

The equipment visible in this snap was in front of a van and at the feet of people with a big video camera when I had left my car. When I came back, the van had gone and there were people sitting in two small cars. A young man kept going back and forth between these cars and somewhere behind. He grinned when he saw that I was watching with curiosity.

The equipment and number of people involved suggested that they were working on a film or substantial television series. I wish now that I had asked them, but I was too shy.
